Vancouver house hunting using the Internet
According to the 2008 US National Association of Realtors Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 87% of homebuyers used the Internet to search for homes last year. That's up steadily from 84% in 2007 and 80% in 2006.
In Canada, Internet usage and property search online may be similar or higher than the US figures.
Property Search Online
The Internet can give you a broad picture on the prices and types of homes available for sale. Other home buyers prefer to identify the neighborhoods and then look out for homes available for sale. Most home buyers are concerned about the schools, crime statistics around the neighborhood, and potential resale value for properties in the area.
The Internet is a highly efficient tool to help you collect information. It is not the end-all and be-all in the home-buying process. The help of a good, conscientious, local Realtor specializing in the market is necessary in locating the right home for your family.
Neighborhood Preferences
Some buyers prefer areas with plenty of green space, wide laneways, tree-lined streets. Prublic amenities and easy access to public transportation are important factors influecing home a buyer's decision. Preferences for south facing lots or homes with south facing bark-yards are sought by many home buyers.
Housing Market activities
Monthly and weekly un-dates for home sales and pricing data for various municipalities are available through local realtors who post their blogs online. Home buyers can search online and find the postings and homes listed for sale on MLS.
